Haitian American Kids Club Picnic and Water Park Extravaganza.

This was truly a family event. There were about 22 families for a total of approximately 76 persons. God gave us a beautiful day under the shady trees at the Martin Luther King Park. The kids had a great time, which they will always remember.

The following events took place:

1. We had an appetizing barbeque (Thanks to the culinary skills of the zealous chef Carlos Caseus)
2. Got entertained by Giles Charleston with a large assortment of great Haitian music.
3. Celebrated Julien Charleston’s 7th birthday.
4. HAK Club offered a plaque of appreciation to Kysseline Jean-Mary and Sandra Duval for their dedicated work in making the HAK Club’s summer camp a success. Because of this camp, the kids who participated learned a lot about Haiti, such: the meaning of konbit, pirates (boucaniers, flibustiers, Tortuga, history), fete champet, carnival, planting, Haiti’s geography and culture, etc.
5. Swam at theMartin Luther King Outdoor Water Park.

Homelessness Awareness Day at the Christ House (www.christhouse.org) in Washington, DC.

An educational session on Homelessness.  Christ House is a medical facility providing care to our homeless population in Washington, DC.  Parents and children have an opportunity to interactively learn the facts and causes of homelessness and witness first hand how the Christ House medical facility contributes to make a difference in our community.  This visit offers our children -future world citizens- a keener sense of generosity, responsibility, caring, volunteering and solidarity. The kids participate in a hands-on decoration craft session of the homeless living quarters in harmony with the holiday season theme and spirit. Finally, the kids, the parents, Chrit House staff and the homeless persons have lunch together.

Event organized by Giles and Nathalie Charleston
